You are spoiled for choice with some of the best beaches in the UK here in Cornwall. Falmouth is no exception and you do not have to travel far to enjoy a great day out at the beach while you are on your holiday.
There are four beaches to choose from in Falmouth – here is our run down of what is available at each one and our favorite……..
Castle Beach:
Less well known than the others, Castle beach is located near Pendennis Castle. It is mainly a shingle beach with exposed rock pools at low tide to keep the children entertained for hours.
Parking is on the main road along the front (Cliff Road). There are toilets and often take away food vans park above the beach as well.
Gyllyngvase:
Probably the best known and most popular beach in Falmouth. Gyllynvase is easily accessible if you have young children with a buggy and is also one of the best beaches in Cornwall for disabled access with a sand wheel chair available.
The beach has blue flag status and the RNLI operate a lifeguard service between the middle of May – September.
There are toilets near, and a large car park just a couple of minutes’ walk away.
Takeaway food is available, and the popular Gyllnvase beach café is also on hand for refreshments.
Behind the beach is the lovely Queen Mary Gardens which opened in 1910 for a stroll around away from the sand.
Swanpool:
This Sandy beach on the outskirts of Falmouth is popular with young families and water sports enthusiasts.
There is a large car park and toilet facilities are just a minutes’ walk from the beach.
Just behind the beach there is a nature reserve you can walk around and see the swans and ducks.
There is a café on the beach along with kayak hire if you want to try something new.
Above the beach the excellent sea food restaurant Hooked on the Rocks is located.
Maenporth:
We might be slightly biased here but we have saved the best one until last!
It is on your doorstep just a short stroll down the hill. The walk back up can take a little bit longer……!
Life’s a Beach Café is located right on the beach for your convenience and serve a selection of snacks and lunches – very reasonably priced and excellent quality. Ice creams and a small gift shop are also there.
Public toilets are next to the beach and there is plenty of car parking available.
Falmouth Water Sports School is also located on the beach. As well as SUP and Kayak hire, the team also offer a mobile surf school and travel to where the waves are best. Guided SUP tours can also be booked along with beach or stand-up paddle board yoga – something new to try for sure!
Finally, the Cove restaurant is also at Maenporth. This fine dining restaurant is part of the Michael Caines collection of restaurants and booking is advisable.
Wherever you decide to visit – we hope you enjoy your day at the beach.
