Maenporth beach is a sheltered bay and is a natural playground for watersports. Falmouth Surf School & Watersports is based here and will be able to help you make the most of your time at the beach.
Falmouth Surf School & Watersports is a family run business and has been around since 1995. Spence who is 68 years young has been surfing since the 1970s. Naomi, Matt, and Jess all work in the business and are on hand to answer any questions you have and get you in the water!
They operate a mobile surf school and visit the beaches where the waves are the best on the day making the most of the conditions. Maenporth is a relatively safe and sheltered beach which means the conditions are not always ideal for surfing. The team can teach right through from beginner to advance and have all the relevant coaching and water safety awards to keep you safe whilst offering encouragement and tips to improve throughout.
The calm waters of Maenporth more often means that the conditions are ideal for stand up paddleboarding (SUP) and kayaking. Hire is available from Falmouth Surf School & Watersports right on the beach to save you having to transport equipment. Tours of the area are available if you are looking for a guide to show you the best places to go so you don’t miss anything……like the Ben Asdale shipwreck hidden around the corner of the bay…..!
A super SUP is also available…. Where up to 8 paddlers can go on the one board!! Snorkeling tours are being offered from this over the summer to try something new!
If you prefer to stay on land, beach yoga sessions are available throughout the week which is always popular with our guests. If you are struggling to choose between yoga and SUP, then why not combine the two? SUP yoga is becoming increasingly popular, and you can book to try this at Maenporth beach!
There is a notice board in the leisure centre reception area which shows what activities are on when each week and this is normally updated on a Sunday. The board also has other useful information such as the tide times, conditions, and sea temperature.
After your day in the sea, be sure to check out Life’s a beach café for refreshments before heading back up to the Estate.
